Wish U Sweet

In an atmospheric bakery in Tegelen, hidden between the streets of a quiet village, we find Anna Moczydlak, the 27-year-old founder of Wish U Sweet. What started as a refuge in difficult times, grew into one of the largest baking studios in the Venlo area.

Baking as an escape and healing

Anna’s journey began during a dark period in her life, when baking became a refuge for her. “Baking was like a form of therapy,” Anna says. “When I was baking, the world was just me and the cake.” Without realizing it, she was laying the foundation for what would later become her career. Anna never planned on baking as a source of income, but as she spent more time in the kitchen, her progress became apparent.

The Birth of Wish U Sweet

At first, Anna only shared her creations with friends and family, but the positive feedback and requests that came from that gave her the idea to take it a step further. “From time to time, I would post pictures of my cakes on my private social media, which led to friends asking if they could order them,” she says. The number of requests grew through word of mouth, and soon she could no longer bake at home. “With so many orders, it felt irresponsible to continue baking at home, so I quickly decided to rent a space and start a business.”

The beginning was tough, the costs were piling up and it was hard to make ends meet. But Anna kept going, supported by the cake lovers around her. "Every week more satisfied customers came and recommended me to their friends," she says proudly. Today Anna runs the largest baking studio in Venlo and surroundings, an achievement she can be rightly proud of.

Creativity as the key to success

What sets Anna apart from other bakers is her dedication to her craft and her attention to detail. “My greatest achievement is perfecting my craft to the point where I can consistently deliver high-quality cakes that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also put a smile on my customers’ faces.” Every day in her bakery is different, and that’s exactly what makes her job so exciting. “Although baking sponge cakes and applying creams are daily chores, every project demands something new from me.”

For Anna, making a cake is more than just following a recipe. It’s creating something personal and meaningful. This is especially evident in wedding cakes. “I love creating a design that is in tune with the story of the couple. It’s special to create something that is not only beautiful, but also meaningful.”

"I also really enjoy making large children's cakes, especially those with a touch of magic in them. The imagination and joy I can put into these designs makes it a particularly fun challenge."

The indispensable role of support

Despite her impressive achievements, Anna remains humble and grateful for the support she has received. "My partner is absolutely indispensable in my bakery," she emphasizes. "From the beginning, he has believed in me and supported me. Without his support, my bakery would not be what it is today." This partnership has helped her to overcome the challenges of entrepreneurship and realize her dreams.

The importance of trends and innovation

As a creative, Anna is constantly looking for new inspiration and techniques. "I follow trends in the baking world with great interest," she says enthusiastically. She names buttercups and rice and waffle paper as her latest favorites. "The versatility of these materials offers so many possibilities," she says. Anna continues to challenge herself to learn new skills and techniques, and she hopes this process never ends. "Discovering new possibilities with familiar ingredients and techniques continues to be a source of joy and inspiration for me."

Inspiration from everyday life

Anna’s inspiration often comes from unexpected places. “I get my inspiration from paintings, graphic art, and even nature,” she says. “I even see inspiration in all kinds of dresses. I believe that we are surrounded by so many inspiring things every day; it’s all about learning to notice them.” This creative perspective on the world allows her to create unique and personalized creations that continue to surprise her customers.

Key challenges

Of course, there are also difficult sides to running a successful bakery. "One of my biggest challenges is the fact that there are only 24 hours in a day. I have so many ideas and plans that I would like to realize, but I often run up against the limitation of time. Finding the right balance between my creative ambitions and the available time is an ongoing challenge."

A look into the future

Anna’s dreams for the future are big. She wants to expand her bakery with new, innovative products and perhaps even open more locations. “Ultimately, I aspire to be a leader in the local community and grow my bakery into a recognizable and valued brand,” she shares. Her ambition is infectious, and it’s clear that she’s determined to achieve her goals.

Advice for beginners

For those who are just starting out with baking, Anna has some valuable tips. "Be patient and learn from your mistakes," she advises. "Baking requires precision and it's normal to make mistakes now and then." She also emphasizes the importance of taking workshops and courses to improve your skills, and daring to experiment with new ideas. "Baking is both a science and an art, and you will learn a lot by trying different combinations and techniques."

Anna also points out the importance of good inventory management. “Manage your costs and inventory carefully to minimize waste and maximize your profit,” she says. This is business wisdom she learned the hard way, especially after her early mistake of underpricing. “I didn’t calculate the true cost of the ingredients, so I ended up making next to nothing,” she admits. It was a valuable lesson in the importance of proper cost analysis.

The best compliment

Anna’s work has made many people happy, but one experience she will never forget. “The best compliment I ever received was when a customer cried tears of joy when they saw the cake I had delivered,” she recalls. “It was an incredibly moving experience and confirmation that my work really makes a difference to people.”

The importance of packaging

Anna also understands the importance of details, such as the packaging of her products. “Packaging is very important to me,” she explains. “It plays a crucial role in protecting the quality and freshness of my baked goods, and it contributes to the presentation and overall customer experience. Attractive and functional packaging ensures that my products not only arrive safely, but also make a lasting impression. It is an opportunity to strengthen my brand identity and reflect the care and attention that goes into my baking.”

Social media as an indispensable tool

For Anna, social media is crucial to her business. “The majority of my clients come through Instagram or Facebook,” she says. While these platforms are essential for attracting and retaining clients, she recognizes that it takes time and effort to ensure consistency and aesthetics in her content. “Maintaining a strong online presence is therefore an important but time-consuming task.”

With her passion, perseverance and attention to detail, Anna Moczydlak of Wish U Sweet has not only built a successful bakery, but has also created a source of inspiration for others. Her story reminds us that dreams can come true, even if they start during the most difficult times of our lives.
