The bigger the cake, the more the base matters. A thin cardboard board bends the moment you lift the cake, leaving cracks in your buttercream or fondant. Our Ø35 cm cake boards are made from MDF, a wood fibre board that stays flat and rigid while you move the cake, slide it into the box or put it in the car. So your creation arrives exactly the way you finished it.

A perfect fit for our 35x35 cm cake boxes
The 9 mm boards have an actual diameter of 347 mm. They slide easily into a 35x35 cm cake box while keeping the cake firmly in place, so nothing shifts during transport. Our tall white cake box 35x35x30 cm is made from 420 gsm GC board (FSC Mix), has small feet under the base for extra stability and a clear window in the lid so your creation stays visible. Tip: choose a box at least 5 cm taller than your cake, so toppers and fresh flowers stay clear of the lid.
Which cake size suits a 35 cm cake board?
As a rule of thumb, choose a cake board about 5 cm larger than your baking tin. A 30 cm tin gives a finished cake of about 32 cm, which makes a Ø35 cm board with a 35x35 cm box the right combination. For tiered cakes, it's the bottom tier that counts. Piping thick rosettes or adding fresh flowers around the base? Go one size up for both board and box. Cake Frame for stable tiered cakes
With the Cake Frame you build tiered cakes that don't wobble. The base is a Ø35 cm cake board of 9 mm with a 50 cm central dowel. The dowel is deliberately just a little wider than the hole in the board, so it locks tightly into place. For the upper tiers you use cake boards with a centre hole, available separately as Cake Frame parts. Cut the dowel slightly shorter than the total height of your cake and wrap it in film or floral tape for extra protection.

Yes. The MDF boards don't bend, which makes them an ideal base for tiered cakes and wedding cakes. For extra stability, combine them with the Cake Frame.
What is the difference between a cake board and a cake drum?
A cake drum is usually made from thick pressed cardboard with a foil layer. Our MDF cake boards are made from wood fibre, stiffer and resistant to grease and moisture. That makes them especially suitable for heavy and multi tier cakes.
Are the cake boards food safe?
Yes. The 9 mm boards are finished with a food safe lacquer that meets EU and FDA standards for direct and indirect food contact. The 10 mm board has a food safe PE coating.
