Claudia's Cakerie: From hobby to successful entrepreneurship

A look behind the scenes at Claudia Miltenburg lavet, the passionate owner of Claudia's Cakerie, where passion for baking and entrepreneurship come together.

An unexpected journey

For Claudia, a proud resident of De Meern, running a bakery was an unlikely dream five years ago. "If you had told me five years ago that I would do this as a job, I would have laughed at you," Claudia shares with a laugh. Her family has served as an eager test panel from the start, joking that they now consist of 95% butter and sugar.

The birth of Claudia's Cakerie

The adventure began four years ago, when Claudia decided to start her own business after the local baker looked at her with incomprehension when he showed her a picture of a cake she wanted to order for her son. "That's when I decided to do it myself - how hard could it be, I thought... Little did I know !" What started as a hobby quickly grew into a thriving business, and before she knew it, Claudia was a proud entrepreneur.

"I spent hoooours on YouTube," Claudia reveals. "Through a lot of trial and error I got to where I am now, and I'm still learning every day."

The joy of entrepreneurship

For Claudia, the total freedom she has as an entrepreneur is priceless. "I can be there for my children every day," she says proudly. She also enjoys the contact with her customers and the stories behind their orders.

Challenges and tips

One of Claudia's biggest challenges is time management, where she often gives in to (sometimes too many) new requests to generate the much-needed income. "Then I am sometimes so busy that I think later - I was supposed to do baking next to the children. The rising purchase prices are also always a challenge."

Her advice for aspiring bakers? "Above all, have fun! Make yourself proud and take the plunge. No one grows while they are in their comfort zone. Always ask yourself the question; what is the worst that can happen? The answer to that question is almost never as bad as you think."

Trendy cakes and packaging

Naked cakes are not Claudia's thing and she is not enthusiastic about the burn away cake, but she does love the vintage cake trend.

In addition, the packaging of her work is incredibly important. "I think the total picture from A to Z should be complete, and that includes the packaging. The quality of the packaging should be in line with the quality of what I sell."

She has a preference for high cake boxes and sweet boxes with a transparent lid . To make her packaging recognizable, she prefers to use stickers: "A simple way that is easy to manage in terms of costs."

Dreams for the future

Claudia has new goals for her bakery each year, including a larger workspace this year. Her dedication and determination are evident, and she is already working toward making her dreams a reality.

With her love for baking and her entrepreneurial spirit, the future of Claudia's Cakerie promises to be as sweet as her creations.
